George Underwood nació en 1947. Se unió a Beckenham Art School en 1963. Posteriormente se fue interesando cada vez más en la música. Persiguió una carrera en el mundo de la música. Después de decidir que el negocio de la música no era para él, regresó a los estudios de arte y luego trabajó como ilustrador. Se especializó en fantasía, terror y ciencia ficción creando también cubiertas de libros. Muchos de sus colegas en el mundo de la música le pidieron varias obras de arte para ellos.
Al comienzo de la década de 1970 comenzó a pintar al óleo. Sus pinturas fueron influenciadas por la Escuela de Viena del realismo fantástico. La imaginación es la palabra clave en las pinturas de George. No utiliza modelos en vivo prefiere inventar las personas que habitan en su propio mundo personal.

EliminarI can't explain, but those paintings scare the hell out of me! But it really looks typical for 70's fantastic realism, like the textures, the facial expression, the hats... I am wondering whether or not there was one of his pictures in the Phantasten Museum in Vienna (which one should absolutely see!).
